Lughnasad, also known as Lammas (loaf mass), Lammastide, August Eve, Laa Lhuanys, Calan Awst, and Garland Sunday. This is the holiday that takes place when we are half between the Summer and Autumn, and is the season of Hope, Belief, and Trust. It is celebrated on August 1st, or tomorrow I should say lol it is the last fire festival of the Celtic year and represents the First Harvest. Typically we spend this holiday picking wild berries, climbing hills, and visiting holy wells. The feast is usually made from corn and fresh baked bread from the harvest, along with festivals and games and dances. This is modernly known as a county fair, see how it survived all these years, even under the crushing embrace of Christianity? The celebration lasts from weeks to months traditionally, but its up to you. It is named for the Celtic god of the sun, Lugh. It is also known for being the time of wishing on shooting stars because the Perseid meteor shower is still ongoing at this time. Another tradition is when many young lovers do something called Handfasting, or a temporary marriage that lasts a year and a day.
Feel free to add in how you celebrate Lammas!!
