So I, personally, have no problem with people who do witchcraft as a hobby. It's really not a bad thing to not tie yourself to witchcraft. Like most beliefs, you don't have to be entirely dedicated to it and saying that such a thing is a requirement to be a 'true witch' is, well, bullshit. You don't have to memorize every herb, have an old, mysterious looking book of shadows. You don't have to match those witch aesthetics. Hell, you don't even need a familiar to be a true witch. While many opinions may differ from my own, I believe that all you need is the determination needed to keep practicing and also believing that it will work. In the end, witchcraft is something you should enjoy. You shouldn't feel pressured to follow certain rules and such if you want to continue practicing.
However, there is one thing that bothers me. People who don't take the craft seriously. I don't like when people see witchcraft as a game or something you do to seem cool. I don't like when people say they're doing witchcraft when they don't even know something as basic as making a sigil. I'm not saying you gotta know everything to be a witch, but at least take it seriously and be willing to learn some stuff even if, in the end, all you know or do is sigils. I myself mostly do sigils and grounding. I collect crystals and herbs and I have many references, yes, but that was my decision to tie myself to my craft. Please don't see witchcraft as a joke. I find it really insulting and immature as someone who has gone through hell and back to stay tied to it and actually practice it and make it an actual lifestyle for myself.
Really, that's all I have to say. Add on if you want to say something about this or have a differing opinion. All I ask is that you be respectful and mature. Thank you for reading.

I personally think that when you call yourself "witch" you should be connected to the craft in strong way and if it's just "uh yeah its fun but mehhhh" then I don't think calling yourself one is a good idea? Of course the term "witch" has a broad meaning and can't be defined and should be defined for everyone on their own but why would you call yourself a witch when you're not serious about what you're doing?
Of course there are pagans/wiccans/ people who practise who choose not to call themselves witches even though they are wich makes more sense than calling your self one when you're not really "serious" about being one....

I think that the moment you start calling yourself a witch, forces around you start noticing and responding to you. You'll need to be ready to deal/cope with those forces, and if you call yourself a witch before even knowing how to do that, that's your loss. "Witch" is a title that shouldn't be taken lightly at all, which is one of the main reasons I want to put more time into studying the craft before initiating myself. So yeah, I agree with OP.

Elaborate for me. Is this saying that a person is wrong for practicing witchcraft as a hobby? Of course, I respect your opinion and beliefs, but I mean? I don't know. It's not a 'cool' thing to do and it is serious, but I feel like a person can practice how they want however frequently they want???
However, I definitely agree with you. It doesn't make any sense to call yourself a witch when, well...you aren't. And it doesn't make sense to try to call yourself what you can't even take seriously. Yeah, it's hella funny that we can make spells called "The Unholy Spell of Bibbity Bobbity Fuck You", but it's a lifestyle, not a joke.
